Custom WordPress plugins and API integrations

When WordPress has to talk to another system, or do something no plugin does well, I write the code: custom plugins, REST API integrations and data importers.

What you get

  • Plugins for one job

A plugin that does what your site needs and nothing else: custom post types, admin screens, shortcodes or blocks.

  • API integrations

WordPress exchanging data with other systems through their APIs, such as a store, a newsletter tool or your own platform.

  • Importers

Content pulled from another site or service and created in WordPress, so nobody has to copy it by hand.

  • Live data without reloads

Search, filters and status boards that update over AJAX while the visitor stays on the page.

How it works

  1. Describe what it has to do

Tell me which systems are involved and what should happen. API documentation or a sample of the data helps. I reply within 24 hours.

  2. Fixed quote and plan

You get a fixed price, scope and timeline before any work starts, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

  3. Build on staging

I work in Git on a staging copy and share progress you can try, never on your live site.

  4. Test, launch and document

A deploy without downtime, and notes on what I built and how to maintain it.

Common questions

Who owns the code?
Once the final payment is in, the code belongs to you or your client. I document it so another developer can maintain it.
Can you fix or extend a plugin someone else wrote?
Yes. I start by reading the code and telling you whether it’s worth fixing or better to rebuild. On Moynihan Train Hall’s site I rebuilt the live train tool because the previous version wasn’t working reliably.
Which systems have you connected to WordPress?
Shopify’s API for product data, a C# platform’s endpoints for account sign-up, another WordPress site’s REST API for content, and public newsletter pages, such as Mailchimp campaign archives, for a newsletter post type.
Can I read your code before we talk?
Yes. Some of my plugins are open source on GitHub, so you can see how I write and document code.
